so glad nebraksa picked up another eric crouch haha

This is the reason why with these highlights you can see why Zach Lee is not starting QB. Taylor Martinez actually moves out of the pocket and runs...we all know Zach Lee can not run worth a crap. I was really impress of Taylor Martinez speed and skill as a freshman...but yes this was only Western Kentucky, will have to see how Martinez puts out towards a better football school. Defense was kinda shaky in the second half but I believe it will improve and get better week by week. GO HUSKERS !!!

It's obvious that Cody Green should start. He gives the best interviews.
By: luckysle7en. on 06 Sep 10, 07:50:45
@Deadsicle i dont know about you guys, but I LOVED the interview he gave after the game. I thought it was funny and kind of like something Pelini would say lol
By: wintersnowstorm9. on 06 Sep 10, 06:52:53
@NYLISE1 not saying you are wrong, but what proof do you have other than his interview last night? give proof and i will gladly agree with you
By: d0861. on 06 Sep 10, 05:01:20
@wjewell If you think that they will be able to successfully run the read option as many times against a team like Texas, then I suppose you may be right. It may be easy to look like Crouch when playing against WKU, but I'm going to hold off on my comparisons until they play the likes of Washington, Texas, Oklahoma State, A&M, etc.
By: wjewell. on 06 Sep 10, 04:41:01
@d0861 From what I see Martinez has Lee by a mile - His acceleration reminds me of Crouch - Martinez puts Nebraska in a much better chance to win because of the run/pass threat. Lee cant run! Martinez will be the starter and Lee will just have to enjoy the pine.
By: d0861. on 06 Sep 10, 01:56:28
@Deadsicle Not to mention, Lee is the only one out of those QBs that was playing with a substantial injury... I'm not trying to hype Lee up as a Heisman candidate, I'm simply saying that if, and when, a big time defense shuts down the spread-option and these inexperienced QBs start throwing picks, Lee is going to need to come in. Making him ride the pine during these cake-walk games puts even more pressure on him for when that time comes.
By: d0861. on 06 Sep 10, 01:52:38
@Deadsicle I've never heard that they had to COMPLETELY change the offense, and even if they did, they still use the same formations (for the most part). Lee also has more real, game-time experience against different coverage packages and defensive schemes. If you want to compare pass attempts/sac, Lee had 16.8, Tebow- 10.8, Clausen- 17.7, Mallett- 16.8, McCoy- 15.7, T. Taylor 8.7, Gabbert- 24.4, McElroy- 18.1. So the stats aren't really in your favor.
By: Deadsicle. on 06 Sep 10, 01:27:19
@NYLISE1 so was Tommie Frazier. He was just less terrible at interviews so it was less obvious. If I was his coach I'd ban him from interviews though. But I'd rather have an arrogant/confident/talented kid out there than an offense that barely scores more points than the defense.
By: Deadsicle. on 06 Sep 10, 01:22:32
@d0861 he doesn't have 3 years in the system, he has 1. They had to completely change the playbook last year because we sucked on offense. Nebraska isn't running the same offense as they were his first 2 years. Of course Lee was sacked less than those quarterbacks. He didn't do as many passes as they did.
By: MobileSlider. on 06 Sep 10, 01:06:31
I gotta agree with d0861. Martinez did indeed look great. He has speed, accuracy, & confidence. I think he is going to be another Crouch in a year or two, but for now I still think Lee is our best bet, especially when we get into conference play. That said...GO HUSKERS!!!
By: d0861. on 06 Sep 10, 00:03:53
@8GTA8 I just find it hard to believe that a redshirt freshman with 1 game of experience is going to make better throwing decisions than a senior with 3 years in the system and an entire year of playing time. Surely, Lee knows the playbook better, and knows better than the freshman when not to throw the ball into a high risk situation. FYI, in 2009 Lee was sacked less than Tebow, Clausen, Mallett, McCoy, T. Tayler, Gabbert, and tied McElroy with 18.

wow taylor martinez is probably one of the most arrogant human beings on the planet
By: vampireallie. on 05 Sep 10, 19:03:33
Rape? taylor martinez is the next eric crouch
By: 8GTA8. on 05 Sep 10, 18:30:44
@d0861 dude your kidding me right? lee doesnt have superior decision making skills at all? his decision making is what killed us last year against teams like texas tech, he cant decide where to throw it and he takes way too much time in the pocket and eventually gets sacked. zac lee deserves his number 3 spot on the depth chart.
By: wintersnowstorm9. on 05 Sep 10, 18:18:27
@wintersnowstorm9 They lost both Fisher and Compton, the main two guys linebackers.
By: wintersnowstorm9. on 05 Sep 10, 18:15:55
I read that a lot of the D problems were comunication errors. The main guy, Compton, got hurt a few days before the game so they had to put David in. Compton had been the main guy all preseason and throughout practices, so considering that they had to but the backup in two days before the game, the errors were understandable. Let's just hope that those errors will be fixed by next week :)
By: d0861. on 05 Sep 10, 17:47:00
Even if Lee is, legitimately, the 3rd best quarterback on the team, I don't see any reason to keep him off the field until the end of the game. Lee played lights-out against Arizona with an injury last year, and almost took them to a BCS bowl. Game experience for younger players is great, especially against a lower-tier defense, but I suspect that they'll need Lee's superior decision making skills when they go up against some tougher opponents. Keeping him on the bench, to me, seems foolish.
By: chocolateangus. on 05 Sep 10, 16:51:37
first off i was impressed by the composure of martinez, being as this was his first game and you couldnt tell that by watching him. the offense in general looked good, we will have to see vs better competition however. my main concern is the defense which i thought would be my last concern. whats going on? how come we couldnt stop runs up the middle? why were recievers left open so many times? i guess im not to worried about this being as i know these issues will be fixed by next week.
By: Midwest4life1. on 05 Sep 10, 08:41:51
@luckysle7en compton will be out for awhile with his broken foot at least 6 weeks

By: Deadsicle. on 05 Sep 10, 07:14:39
I've read a lot of comments about how poorly the defense played, but they were about the same at this time last year. Florida Atlantic isn't much better than WK they had 350 yards. I guess it's hard not to worry when someone so good leaves, though.
