I bet mr. fretbuzz there never played piano, but that does'nt even matter. stick to your guitar and maybe you'll make something that us unleaned musicians can call bullshit. Winston may not be a technical piano wizard, but the man knows how to put together a song that can truly move the soul.

@diminutive1 It's not at all about complexity for complexity's sake. Many songs use the same or similar chord progressions, but the melodies are different. E.g., Heart & Soul uses a very common progression. Simply repeating those chords, lightly arpeggiated, w/ a few little embellishments is no creative achievement. That's essentially what GW has done here. He's taken a common prog & fluffed it up, which to a non-musician may sound like more than it is. A musician will recognize it as bullshit.

I understand what you mean about simple technique, but it certainly is not "bullshit". You're taking these music technicalities too far, if something sounds good, it's good music. But he just repeats it over & over, w/out developing any strong melodic themes, or varying his L hand part, which isn't interesting to start with. It reminds me of what a young music student might come up w/after learning a few chords or the cycle of 4ths. That's why the comparison to kids' art: it's very rudimentary & lacks substance. Most folk music is very simple, but has a beauty & depth this vapid fluff lacks.

But please don't mention Gershwin (who died in '37, BTW) & Rachmaninoff in the same breath as a hack like Winston. It's like comparing Picasso with a person who draws stick figures. Seriously. But to your general point, the more advanced be-bop replaced swing, which replaced earlier forms, etc. However, all those forms were serious music performed by skilled players. He made a big splash in the 80s and 90s, now people are calling him "fake classical" or passe. Not to be condescending, but perhaps this is tough for a non-musician to understand. I have not simply badmouthed. I offered the analogy of a child's painting which is framed & admired by the family, but which would never be considered serious art. I'm sure you folks can understand that. Well, that's a pretty good comparison to GW's music.

My hubby is in Iraq and Thanksgiving was such a bittersweet day for me. I cried while saying grace thinking about how much I wished he was there with me. I am fortunate he is home soon, end of March... without the sacrafices of the military we would not have our freedoms! It's such a disgrace to see ppl say the military DOES NOT fight for the freedom of our country... SHAME on you ppl. I don't support the war, but I do the military. @summacl I certainly can relate to your loss. My parents have both passed away and and a very dear aunt who lived just down the road passed away last year. It hurts me everyday to see their houses knowing they are gone, but I have so many wonderful memories of holidays and family get togethers with them. yes, boiling a Ziploc bag will cause chemicals to leach out (according to Ziploc). However, in the video the water is only heated to 170F or 76.66C. this temperature is far from boiling. in fact it is not even hot enough to make a cup of tea or coffee. perfect for cooking moist and succulent turkey though :D awesome video!!

Even Foodsaver claims that their bags are only safe to 170F. And the USDA recommends cooking all your poultry to 175F. And Advil tells you "do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours." And all cookware always says not to use it over high heat. I'm not saying there aren't any reasons behind these warnings, but why be a stickler about this one and not all the others? Thousands of people eat sous vide food every day and don't complain. Get over it.

Btw... I did a little research on that "making butter" question ha. I didn't get it at first, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks "omg did he make butter from breastmilk?!" Appearently he mentioned it in an earlier Q&A a long time ago. I love that whole Iron Chef part. Battle Beanie Weenie LOL. I love AB! He's so funny; I love his stand up routine even though he's teaching them about cooking. I can't believe the audience didn't laugh at some of the jokes that he did! You're great, Alton - you taught me that cooking wasn't so bad; I used to hate it; now I really enjoy it! It really makes a difference when you know WHY you're doing what your doing in an application.
